We wanted a place that didn’t feel like a store—it is a studio and it is where we work—we wanted it to feel like our home,” Katherine Holmgren, cofounder of Galvan, told T&C at June 7 opening of the brand’s New York city boutique in Soho. Galvan, which launched four years ago in London, offers up highly covetable ’90s-esque slip dresses, jumpsuits, and halters at a time when evening wear is often shoved to the back of the proverbial closet.
Holmgren and fellow cofounders Sola Harrison, Carolyn Hodler, and Anna-Christin Haas have built a devoted following with their highly considered approach to retail; fans include Sienna Miller, Toni Garrn, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Originally, the plan was to open a second-floor, appointment-only space similar to Galvan’s first location in Notting Hill. However, when the perfect opportunity for a ground-floor shop presented itself, the women decided to go for their first storefront.
